Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel is available on the STATLAB_NT network.

To Start
Click at the Microsoft Excel Icon in the Applications folder. An empty spreadsheet is being diplayed.
Entering or Saving Data
Loading Files
Select File > Open from the menu. If your data is not in Microsoft Excel format, select the data type in File of Type. For ASCII data files, the TextWizard appears to guide you through the steps required to specify how you want text to be distributed across columns.
Saving
Select File > Save and name the file (without extension or the default .xls). If you want to save your spreadsheet in different format, choose it in File Type.
Note: Never change the given extension of a spreadsheet, as the programs use it to recognize the file type.
Printing
Highlight the desired block with the mouse and click the Print Button . Select Print Preview to check the layout and adjust margins.
Charts
Select the worksheet data you want to display in the chart, choose Chart form the Insert menu. Follow the instructions in the ChartWizard. To make changes to a chart, you must activate it. To activate an embedded chart, double-click the chart on the worksheet. To activate a chart sheet, select the tab for the chart sheet you want with the appropriate workbook open.
Analyzing Data
Choose Data Ananlysis from the Tools menu. In the Analysis Tools box, select the name of the tool you want to use. Then specify the input and output ranges and any other options you want.
