- Geography
Network
Portal to many different data sites as well as to other GIS resources.
Sponsored by ESRI so the data definetly has an ESRI focus.
- Digital
Chart of the World (Penn State University Libraries)
This web site will allow you to download the boundaries and layers
of different countries, in Arc/INFO export format, from ESRI's
Digital Chart of the World data set. Our mapping function will
give you a preview of the data. The entire data set is also available,
on CD- ROM, at the Pennsylvania State University's Social Sciences
Library or from ESRI. The Digital Chart of the World (DCW) is
an Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (ESRI) product
originally developed for the US Defense Mapping Agency (DMA) using
DMA data.
- GIS
Data Depot This "supersite" for GIS data allows
users to download geographic data at no cost, or to create custom
CDs from a catalog of over one million domestic and international
sources. There is also value added data where the GIS Data Depot
staff has performed some translation, attribution, analysis, or
other data enhancing operation. The GIS Data Depot offers data
in a wide variety of data formats. The format of each data file
will depend upon the original data source and collection process.
Most of today's standard GIS packages offer a host of conversion
tools that can usually fulfill your requirements. Please be sure
that your GIS software supports the data formats that you are
purchasing or can translate them into a suitable format. The majority
of datasets in the GIS Data Depotd are in ARC/INFO E00, SHP, DLG,
TIGER & DEM. If you have a specific conversion issue or are
looking for tools, tips, or techniques, please check the Help
Desk section on data formats.
- UConn's
Mapping And Geographic Information Center (MAGIC)
Downloadable public domain geo-spatial data for the State of Connecticut
in MapInfo, ArcInfo, and AutoCad formats. The data can be viewed
by state (1:250,000), county (1:100,000), town (1:24,000), or
7.5 minute quad (1:24,000). Layers include population (by census
tract and block group), streets, roads, hydrography, railroads,
drainage basins, and land use.
- Interactive Spatial
Data Browser:
This site from the Geographic Information Center at the University
of Virginia utilizes the 1:2,000,000-scale Digital Line Graph
database from the USGS to provide visualization of selected data
layers at state, multi-state, or national levels. ARC/INFO operations
run in the background. Digital Line Graphs (DLGs), other spatial
databases, and documentation supporting the digital services are
available at their FTP site for downloading and use in spatial
applications.
- TIGER
Mapping Service:
The US Gazetteer is part of this WWW site. The goal of this service
is to provide a public resource for generating high-quality, detailed
maps of anywhere in the US, using public geographic data. The
TMS system consists of three parts: a mapping engine to generate
maps on the fly from TIGER and other data, a map browser to view
the maps, and development tools to aid WWW publisers in using
the TMS as part of their own applications.
- US Gazetteer:
This gazetteer allows you to view maps and 1990 US Census summary
data for places (cities and towns). Display time can be slow.
- China
Data Center
This site at the Univ. of Michigan has some good links on using
Arcview and can provide data for China. Such a good site its linked
here and in spatial analysis.
